Miley Cyrus is known for her bold and daring fashion choices, and her ever-changing hairstyles are no exception. From her early days as a Disney Channel star to her current status as a chart-topping pop icon, Cyrus has experimented with a wide range of hair colors, cuts and styles, cementing her status as a trendsetter. Earlier this week, Cyrus debuted dark brown hair on the red carpet at The Daily Front Row’s Fashion Los Angeles Awards in Beverly Hills, CA. It’s a huge departure from her usual look as of late.

One of Cyrus’s most iconic hair moments came in 2012, when she debuted her edgy, platinum blonde pixie cut. The dramatic change marked a turning point in Cyrus’s career, signaling her departure from her wholesome image and ushering in a new era of self-expression and rebellion. It’s been 11 years since that big chop and she’s been a shade of blonde ever since. Cyrus has continued to push the boundaries with her hair, experimenting with everything from sleek and straight bob cuts to wild, multicolored extensions.

Her new look isn’t just some basic brunette, though. This is Miley after all.

It looks like her hair still has pieces of blonde throughout, with brown hair over it instead of under it like she’s done in the past. She recently said she’s been wanting to go back to her roots for a while now but her Godmother Dolly Parton was against it. She told TODAY that she wanted to go brown for New Year’s Eve but Parton talked her out of it.

“I’ve never seen Dolly actually scared before,” Cyrus said. “She acted like I told her the worst news you could imagine.” When Cyrus told her about her new hair ideas, she apparently was shocked. “And she goes, ‘You can’t do that. You are me,’” Cyrus said. “So I will be blond.” Well, it looks like she somehow found the best of both worlds.
